Raw Speed Through Yangshuo's Back Country

The countryside surrounding Yangshuo stretches between towering karst peaks in a patchwork of rice paddies, mountain trails, and rural villages largely unchanged for centuries. Our ATV tours take you through this landscape on all-terrain vehicles at a pace that no hiking trail can match.

No prior experience is needed. After a safety briefing and a short orientation on the vehicle controls, you’ll follow a guide along established off-road trails through mountain terrain, across streams, and through countryside with views of the karst towers that define the Guilin & Yangshuo landscape. The routes cover a mix of conditions — dirt tracks, gravel paths, and occasional muddy sections after rain.

ATV riding is physical — expect dust, mud, vibration, and speed. It’s the most high-energy activity in our programme and a favourite among travellers looking for something that gets the adrenaline pumping without requiring any technical skill.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a driving licence? +
To ride an ATV solo you should hold a valid driving licence (any country) and be at least 16 years old. Younger participants and those without a licence can ride as passengers on a tandem ATV with an adult driver. Please mention ages and licence status when booking so we can arrange the right vehicle configuration.
Will I get muddy? +
Almost certainly yes, especially after rain. The trails include dirt paths and stream crossings where mud is unavoidable. Wear old clothes you're happy to soil, and bring a change for afterwards. We provide helmets, goggles and gloves to protect the face and hands. Most guests consider the mud part of the fun.
How fast do the ATVs go? +
On open trail sections the guide sets a comfortable cruising speed. Beginners typically ride at 20–40 km/h. Experienced riders who want to push harder on appropriate sections can do so with the guide's approval. We never race or encourage reckless speed.
Can we combine ATV with another activity? +
Yes. ATV tours typically take 2–3 hours, making them easy to pair with a morning kayaking session or an afternoon via ferrata. Many guests combine ATV with kayaking for a full day of contrasting adventures — speed and adrenaline on the trails, calm and scenery on the water. Let us know when booking and we'll build the schedule.
