Beyond the dramatic landscapes lies an equally rich human story — traditional villages, ancient crafts, local food, and the customs of communities that have called the Guilin & Yangshuo karst home for thousands of years.
Local culture tours in Yangshuo are a half-day (3–4 hours) or full-day (7 hours) into countryside villages, traditional crafts and local food, from $60–$89 per person and suitable for all ages. Led by an English-speaking local guide, with hands-on workshops included and a maximum of 12 people per guide. Transport to the villages is not included — add a return transfer for an extra fee or make your own way there.
The Guilin & Yangshuo karst landscape has been home to human communities for thousands of years. The villages scattered between the limestone towers are not museum pieces — they are living communities where traditional crafts, farming methods, and customs have been passed down through generations, existing alongside the modern tourism economy in a fascinating cultural blend.
Our local culture programme takes small groups into real villages with introductions through local contacts our team has built over years of operating in the area. Depending on your interests and available time, tours can include: traditional paper making or ink painting workshops, local cooking classes using Guangxi ingredients, a visit to a working farm, an evening cormorant fishing demonstration on the Li River, or simply time to walk slowly through a traditional village and understand what daily life looks like.
This is our most flexible programme — we tailor it to your group. Tell us your interests (food, crafts, history, photography, children’s activities) and we’ll build the experience accordingly.
We reply within 4 hours (9am–6pm CST).
🚐 Price excludes transport — add a return transfer for an extra fee, or make your own way to the site.
Locally-rooted guide with personal connections in the communities we visit. Context, translation, and introductions throughout.
Not included in the price. Add a return transfer to the villages for an extra fee, or make your own way there — most are outside walking distance from our base.
Sampling of local Guangxi specialities — rice noodles, local fruits, snacks from market vendors or village kitchens.
Hands-on activity included in full-day tours — cooking class, paper-making, or ink painting (selected based on availability).
Our guide knows the best vantage points, optimal light times, and community members who are comfortable being photographed.
All community visits are conducted with permission and respect. We contribute fairly to the communities we take guests into.
🚐 Transport is not included in the activity price. Add a private return transfer with hotel pickup and drop-off — $15–30 for a 4-seater or$20–35 for a 6-seater from Yangshuo town, confirmed when you book, since the fare varies with the distance to each site. Or make your own way there and meet your guide on site — DiDi (China's Uber) works well and is good value.
