Yangshuo is the birthplace of Chinese rock climbing — hundreds of established routes on soaring karst pillars in the Guilin & Yangshuo region, guided by internationally certified instructors.
Yangshuo rock climbing runs as a guided half-day (4 hours) or full-day (7 hours) on bolted limestone karst, from $40–$65 per person. It’s open to complete beginners — no experience needed — and to children from age 4, with internationally certified guides (WMAI wilderness first aid, UIAA/CE-rated gear) and a maximum of 8 climbers per guide.
Yangshuo’s towering limestone karst peaks have made it one of Asia’s most celebrated climbing destinations — the sport was pioneered here from the early 2000s by long-resident Western professional guides, and our instructors are trained in that lineage. The area offers over 300 established sport routes ranging from beginner-friendly single-pitch climbs to challenging multi-pitch adventures that reward experienced climbers with breathtaking panoramic views.
The rock is compact limestone — sticky, featured, and extraordinarily beautiful. Routes weave through pockets, crimps, and tufas carved over millions of years of karst erosion. Our signature venue is Swiss Cheese, a crag set in a beautiful valley a short drive from Yangshuo town, with the full spread of grades on one wall: 5.6 to 5.9 for your first time on rock, 5.10a to 5.11 once you want more, and 5.12 and above for strong climbers. A bamboo grove at the base of the routes gives shade to rest in between climbs.
Our certified instructors tailor every session to your group’s experience level, and climbing is genuinely family-friendly — children from age 4 can climb on a top rope with the intensity dialled right down. Absolute beginners learn footwork, body positioning, and belaying fundamentals on easier routes before progressing to longer climbs as confidence builds. Experienced climbers are taken directly to the best routes at their grade.

Your guide will help capture your climb. Some of Yangshuo's most photogenic views are only visible from the rock.
🚐 Transport is not included in the activity price. Add a private return transfer with hotel pickup and drop-off — $15–30 for a 4-seater or$20–35 for a 6-seater from Yangshuo town, confirmed when you book, since the fare varies with the distance to each site. Or make your own way there and meet your guide on site — DiDi (China's Uber) works well and is good value.
